We are actively recruiting for a School Educator, working title: Computer Teacher. The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic instructional activities with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in Computer Science working directly under the School Principal. This position vacancy will remain open until filled. The Eastern NC School for the Deaf will offer a SIGN ON BONUS of up to $7500 TO Highly Qualified candidates. Highly qualified is defined as having obtained a NC DPI Certified Teaching License in the desired teaching area AND Deaf/ Hard of Hearing. An ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge and understanding regarding functioning, behaviors, needs, problems and attitudes of children who are deaf/hard of hearing including children who are deaf/hard of hearing who may have additional disabilities; knowledge of child development and ability to develop rapport with children; and general knowledge of state and federal laws, division and school policies. They should also be able to maintain records, update and monitor progress towards IEP goals, present information at meetings, lead IEP and other meetings related to the student, and coordinating paperwork through a data analysis system and maintain the confidentiality of these records. The candidate should have the ability to comprehend and implement curricula objectives, to create and implement appropriate daily lesson plans and exercise good judgment in observing and recording behaviors, academic progress, etc.; to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions and to quickly analyze situations and make decisions; ability to use a computer accurately and to make and correct change; and ability to prioritize, organize, and complete duties effectively and efficiently and to perform duties and functions independently with minimal supervision. The use of American Sign Language, proficient to communicate, is also a preference but is not required. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Candidates must hold or be eligible for a NC Teaching License in the appropriate content area. All certified educators working at Eastern NC School for the Deaf are required to be paid from the NC Dept of Public Instruction’s Salary Schedule. This schedule is approved annually by the NC General Assembly and sets a minimum pay based on the educator's years of experience and education level.
